What is Mid-Island Intergroup?

Mid-Island Intergroup is a registered nonprofit organization serving the members and groups of Alcoholics Anonymous in the mid-Island region of Vancouver Island.

A central or intergroup office is an A.A. service office that involves partnership among groups in a community — just as A.A. groups themselves are partnerships of individuals. A central/intergroup office is established to carry out certain functions common to all the groups — functions which are best handled by a centralized office — and it is usually maintained, supervised, and supported by these groups in their general interest. It exists to aid the groups in their common purpose of carrying the A.A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

Who's the boss?

Intergroup is run by an elected committee from A.A members within our community.

Service centres usually have no authority on their own account; they derive it from the participating groups. Local group representatives reflect the groups’ conscience in the service center operations.

Each A.A group is encouraged to have a Intergroup Representative that attends our monthly Intergroup meeting. where the group consciousness can speak, bring forth wants, needs and suggestions. As well as voting power in how Intergroup can better serve the local groups.

Intergroup Meetings

Intergroup deals with business that arises at the group level. Each Intergroup Representative shares their group conscience at the monthly meeting.

Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 6pm on Zoom, unless that day is a holiday in which case it would be the following week. Intergroup does not meet in July or August.

If you are the Intergroup representative for your home group, please ensure that you (or your alternate representative) attend. Any A.A. member may attend an Intergroup Meeting and submit business (contact the Intergroup Chairperson for the process) or attend as an observer; however, only Intergroup Representatives have a vote, and can make a motion.
